Blinds

Blinds in poker is a term which means obligatory bets players make being 'blind', that means the bets are made before the cards are dealt. The major function of blinds is to form the starting pot for players to compete for.

There are big blind and small blind. The player to the dealer’s left is called small blind, the player next to him is called big blind.

Blinds in poker

The size of the big blind is always two times the size of the small blind. Absolute size of the blinds depend on the stakes played. For example, at the NL200 table the small blind is $1, the big blind is $2.

In addition, blinds in poker are standard of describe the pot sizes, the stack sizes and the size of the bets of the players. Professional poker players usually make all the theoretical calculations not in some money equivalent, but in number of blinds.
