Painting of dogs playing poker sells for over $650,000
In the 19th century American artist, Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, draw a painting “Poker Game” with dogs playing poker on it. Thanks to his work Cassius became quite popular: the painting was bought out for more than $100 (serious money at the time). The artist made another 9 drawing on this topic. And a short while ago the first painting by the artist was purchased for $658.000.
Last year two of his works - A Bold Bluff:
and Waterloo:
were obtained by one person for $590.400 in total. Whether Coolidge contributed into the development of pictorial art or not is still open to question but what he has done for the popularization of poker is of great value.
