New Hold'em version was launched at iPoker network

Starting from February 22 all iPoker network users can now try out new Hold'em version - Six Plus Hold'em.

Six Plus Holdem - is a new variant of poker game, which was announced to poker community by Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan in the summer of 2015. Six Plus Hold'em was first implemented in Macao's casinos where later became extremely popular. PokerDOM was the first Russian poker room which launched this game online. It was named Texas 6+ and was available starting from October 2015.

The developers adopted most of the game's rules from Texas Hold'em: opponents are still dealt two cards face-down, the game has 4 streets (preflop, flop, turn and river) and the board consists of 5 cards.

However, some aspects were condemned to change. For example, the deck in Six Plus Holdem consists of 36 cards and the six becomes the cards with the least value. Another peculiarity: players can collect street A-9-8-7-6, replacing missing 5 by ace.

However, the punch line of Six Plus Hold'em is the alteration in the hand's ranking (from the weakest one to the strongest one):

  • High card
  • A pair
  • Two pair
  • Straight
  • Set
  • Full house
  • Flush
  • Quad
  • Staright flush
  • Royal flush

As you've possibly already notice, Street now beats by Set and Flush beat Full House. This change can be explained by the number of cards in the deck. The thing is that the removal of 16 cards from the deck left only 9 cards of each suit. So flush became much more complicated to collect than Full House.

Moreover, there’s another variation, called The Deal.

The game is totally similar to classic Hold’em for the exception of the way the river is dealt. The matter is that instead of opening a river after the turn betting round, each player gets an additional card. From then on the game alter and becomes a little bit more like Omaha: opponents should make a hand of equally two cards in a hand and three on the table.

Six Plus Hold’em is primarily aimed at recreational players. Some combinations are a lot easier to collect than those in classic Hold’em. Thus a chance to get a pair of aces during the preflop has increased twice. Possibly, the focus on weak players plus chance to add something innovating to the poker rooms prompted iPoker management to act this way. Only time will tell whether the new Hold’em variation will become as popular as the classic one.

William Hill and Titan Poker are among those reliable poker rooms - members of iPoker network - represented on our website.
